How to waterproof your exterior wall with impregnation cream
Mould, high humidity, poor thermal insulation, or damage to interior or exterior walls are just a few of the unpleasant consequences of moisture in walls. Definitely something you’d rather avoid. Fortunately, there are effective ways to (proactively) protect your walls against penetrating damp. One of the most reliable solutions is impregnation cream.
What is impregnation cream?
Impregnation cream is a colourless, water-repellent and breathable substance applied to the exterior of a wall. It’s made of water-repellent substances that penetrate deep into the porous surface and form a waterproof layer across the wall. This barrier prevents water from entering the wall, helping you avoid moisture-related problems.
Exterior walls are constantly exposed to the elements, so they can really benefit from a protective layer. Rain Protect Hydrofuge Cream is the ideal product. It’s suitable for unpainted, vertical and porous exterior walls and façades made of concrete, brick, plaster and sand-lime bricks. Rain Protect Hydrofuge Cream is so highly concentrated that just one coat is enough to give your wall long-lasting protection. Convenient, right?
The benefits of using an impregnation cream
Want to avoid the hassle of mould, moss and algae growth, or even structural damage? Then waterproofing your wall is a must. By using an impregnation cream, you gain several important advantages.
- The most obvious benefit is protection from moisture. The cream blocks external water from penetrating the wall, reducing the risk of damage and mould.
- It also offers resistance to all kinds of weather conditions, not just rain, but also frost and snow. It also reduces the likelihood of cracking, peeling paint and general wear and tear.
- An impregnating cream is breathable. Moisture cannot penetrate from the outside, but it can escape from the inside.
How to apply it properly
Applying an impregnation cream is easy, but there are a few things to keep in mind. Before you start, make sure the wall is clean. Use Garden Clean Bio Based, for example. It’s a universal bio-based cleaning product with active ingredients to loosen and break down dirt. Also, ensure there are no green deposits on the wall. If there are, treat them with Garden Clean Green Remover. These two products are very effective and ideal for preparing your wall before applying the cream.
Once your wall is clean and free from dust and residue, you can start applying the impregnation cream. Use a block brush or roller to apply a thick, undiluted layer. One coat is enough. If the cream appears white at first, don’t worry – that’s normal. It will dry to a transparent finish.
Other ways to waterproof your wall
While a product like Rain Protect Hydrofuge Cream is an excellent way to protect your exterior walls from penetrating damp, it’s not your only option. You could also consider:
- Rain Protect Liquid is a water-repellent, breathable coating that’s solvent-free, odourless and colourless. It protects against rain and dirt without changing the appearance of your wall.
- Rain Protect White is a moisture-repellent façade coating with extreme covering power that seals pores and micro-cracks. Thanks to its elasticity, it’s well-suited to rough walls. Its special formula makes the coating durable and UV-resistant.
- Rain Protect Extreme is a ready-to-use wall coating that reinforces both dry and damp constructions with just one layer, thanks to its unique formulation.
With any of these solutions, proper surface preparation is essential. Use a product like Garden Clean Bio Based to ensure optimal results.
