Reflective coating
Protect your home with the right coating.
Every DIYer knows the benefits of a good coating. If you want to protect a roof, wall or basement from moisture and other weather conditions, applying a coating is often the easiest way to achieve a quickly and lasting result.
Reflective coating
Protect your roof and greenhouse from sun and heat
Sunlight provides essential light and warmth, but it can also cause damage. Ultraviolet (UV) and infrared (IR) radiation can accelerate the ageing of roofing materials, cause surfaces to dry out and significantly increase temperatures beneath glass structures. A reflective coating protects surfaces from these effects while extending their lifespan. Why use a reflective coating?
Roofs, glass structures and plastic surfaces are constantly exposed to sunlight. Over time, this can lead to discolouration, drying out and premature ageing of materials. Infrared radiation, for example, can make bituminous roofing brittle, increasing the risk of cracks and leaks. Reflective coatings differ fundamentally from traditional paints. While conventional paints are primarily designed to add colour and improve appearance, reflective coatings are high-performance protective treatments. They reflect sunlight and reduce heat build-up on and beneath the treated surface. They are also much stronger, more hard-wearing and longer-lasting than ordinary paint. This offers several important benefits:- Protection against harmful sunlight (UV & IR radiation)
- Reduced heat build-up beneath roofs and glass structures
- Extended lifespan of materials
- A more comfortable indoor environment
- Lower cooling costs and improved energy efficiency
White reflective roof coating: Roof Paint Reflect White
Are you looking to protect your roof and renovate it at the same time? Then Roof Paint Reflect White is the ideal solution. This white reflective coating is suitable for both flat and pitched roofs and reflects infrared (IR) radiation, helping to reduce heat build-up in the roof structure. This offers several advantages.- It increases the efficiency of solar panels by keeping them cooler on hot days.
- It can be used on bitumen, metal, cement, roof tiles and slates.
- You roof gets long-lasting protection (5 to 10 years).
How to apply Roof Paint Reflect White
- Preparation: Always work on a sound, clean, dust-free and dry surface.
- Primer: On bituminous surfaces, first apply a coat of Roof Primer Multi to ensure optimum adhesion and to act as a barrier against bleed-through. Allow to dry for at least 30 minutes.
- Application: Shake well before use. Apply two coats using a paintbrush or foam roller.
- Drying: Allow the first coat to dry for approximately 24 hours before applying the second coat.
Aluminium reflective coating for roofs and gutters: Roof Paint Reflect Alu
Are you looking for an effective aluminium-coloured renovation coating for bituminous roofs, gutters and metal structures? Then Roof Paint Reflect Alu is the right choice. This functional coating restores, seals, nourishes and maintains existing roofing materials to help prevent premature ageing. Roof Paint Reflect Alu also offers additional benefits.- Thanks to its built-in UV filter and heat-reflective properties, it reduces roof temperatures and keeps indoor spaces cooler for longer.
- It protects your roof structure for about five years.
How to apply Roof Paint Reflect Alu
- Preparation: First ensure that the dry substrate is free of dust and grease. For the best results, apply Roof Primer Roofing
- Mixing: Stir Roof Paint Reflect Alu thoroughly before and during application. The aluminium pigments must be perfectly mixed for an even appearance and optimum performance.
- Application: Apply two even coats using a brush.
- Drying: Only apply the second coat once the first coat is completely dry. Depending on weather conditions, this usually takes around 24 hours.
Sun-reflective coating for greenhouses and glass structures: Garden Protect Sun Reflect
Roofs are not the only surfaces affected by the sun’s heat. Temperatures inside greenhouses, conservatories and skylights can rise rapidly on sunny days. Garden Protect Sun Reflect is a reflective paint specially developed to reduce heat build-up. The paint dries white in dry weather and becomes transparent when it rains. The benefits?- Your plants still receive sufficient light, while much of the heat is kept out.
- The water-based formula is free from harmful substances that could contaminate ponds or waterways.
- The product only needs to be applied once at the start of the warmer season.
- At the end of the season, it can be easily removed with water and soap.
How to apply Garden Protect Sun Reflect
- Preparation: Make sure the glass or plastic surface is dry and free from dust and grease.
- Dilution & Mixing: This product is a concentrate. Dilute one part Garden Protect Sun Reflect with two parts water. Stir the mixture both before use and during application.
- Application: Apply a thin, even coat using a foam roller or a long-bristle brush. One coat is usually sufficient, although a second coat can be applied for additional heat protection.
- Drying: The paint is quick-drying (within approximately one hour).
Important application tips & environmental information
Aquaplan’s reflective coatings are designed as functional protective layers against heat and UV radiation. They are not suitable for waterproofing a roof and should not be painted over with other materials.- Cleaning your tools: Clean tools immediately after applying Roof Paint Reflect White or Roof Paint Reflect Alu using white spirit or turpentine. Since Garden Protect Sun Reflect is water-based, rollers and brushes can simply be cleaned with water.
- Sustainable packaging: Aquaplan takes the environment into account. That’s why our packaging is made from recycled materials and is fully recyclable.
- Disposal: Do you have product left over? Small amounts can be left to dry completely before being disposed of with household waste. Larger quantities should be taken to your local recycling centre.
