Repairing damaged exterior walls
Your exterior walls take a real beating
The bricks and joints of exterior walls are constantly exposed to all types of weather, including rain, freezing temperatures and intense heat. This wear and tear can cause them to crack or crumble, allowing rainwater to seep through and reach the interior walls. If you act in time, you can easily repair a damaged exterior wall yourself and prevent the problem from worsening.
Here’s how to tackle damaged exterior walls
Rake out joints and fill cracks
Are the old joints in your exterior wall damaged? Rake out the worn mortar completely, and thoroughly brush out the space between the bricks using a stiff brush. Then you can quickly and easily refill the joints with Wall Protect Quick Joint, a ready-to-use jointing compound.
You can use the same method to repair cracks that are not flush with a recessed joint. Chisel out the crack, clean the area with a stiff brush, then completely fill it with Wall Protect Quick Joint.
Tip: Want to make your grout even more resistant to moisture? Mix it with a performance-enhancing additive that makes the grout waterproof. Be sure to calculate the amount of grout needed per square metre in advance so you have enough product to cover the entire area. After this, your exterior wall will not only look like new, it will also serve as a solid barrier against future moisture damage.
