IKO enertherm Multi-Fit insulation board

PIR insulation board for any purpose

IKO enertherm Multi-Fit is the ideal PIR insulation board for windproofing and damp-proofing your loft, wall, floor and ceiling. The thin sheets are easy to cut and install thanks to their light weight and convenient grid pattern on the facing. The insulation boards fit together perfectly due to their unique tongue-and-groove system. What’s more, you don’t need an additional vapour barrier. IKO enertherm Multi-Fit is available in various finishes and thicknesses.

  • Easy and fast installation
  • Insensitive to moisture and dimensionally stable
  • Additional vapour barrier not required

Step-by-step plan

  1. LOFT: IKO enertherm MULTI-FIT boards can be mechanically secured to the wooden roof structure with fastening sets (chosen based on insulation board thickness), which consist of distribution discs and screws. First place a row of IKO enertherm boards horizontally on the purlins so that the tongue and groove joint seals properly. Then screw the IKO enertherm boards to the purlins using at least 2 screws with distribution discs. Use at least 2 screws per board. Distribute the screws uniformly across the surface of the board. Then seal all seams between the IKO enertherm boards with IKO ISO TAPE (± 2 m of ALU TAPE/m² ). Make everything airtight by sealing all gaps between the wood or bricks and the IKO enertherm boards with IKO ISO-FILL foam. Now you can proceed with finishing the loft. If the loft will be used as a living space, install a finishing layer with fire-resistant properties. Do not use recessed spotlights; only use surface-mounted spotlights.
  2. FLOOR: Do not use IKO enertherm boards directly on wooden purlins. Always install a vapour barrier (e.g. PE membrane) between the support structure (in wood or concrete) and the insulation boards. Ensure an overlap of 15 cm. Always start in the corner furthest from the opening (loft opening or door). Install the insulation boards row by row. At the end of the first row, cut the insulation board to size. Use the leftover piece as the first piece to start the second row. This ensures the boards are not displaced. Always make sure the joints are staggered at least 30 cm. IKO enertherm boards can be left uncovered or finished with OSB boards or plywood to improve walkability. If you finish with screed and tiles, install the IKO enertherm boards between two layers of PE membrane (both top and bottom).
  3. CEILING: If the ceiling consists of a concrete structure, IKO enertherm boards can be glued to the ceiling. Use a suitable PU adhesive for this purpose (follow the manufacturer's instructions for the correct setting time). Highly absorbent substrates should be moistened beforehand. Apply a continuous bead of glue 2 cm from the edge of the insulation board. Foam is used in the middle and applied in a zigzag pattern. IKO enertherm boards can also be mechanically secured with fastening sets consisting of distribution discs and screws. Use at least 4 screws per board. Distribute the screws uniformly across the surface of the board and fasten them 15 cm from the corners of the boards. If the ceiling is a grid construction, always attach the insulation boards mechanically as described above. If the loft will be used as a living space, install a finishing layer with fire-resistant properties. Do not use recessed spotlights; only use surface-mounted spotlights.
  4. STRAIGHT WALL: If the wall is sufficiently straight, you can mechanically secure the IKO enertherm boards directly to the wall with distribution discs and screws. Use at least 2 screws per board. IKO enertherm boards can also be glued to the wall if there is not a deviation of more than 3 cm. Use a suitable PU adhesive for this purpose (follow the manufacturer's instructions for the correct setting time). Highly absorbent substrates should be moistened beforehand. Apply a continuous bead of glue 2 cm from the edge. Foam is used in the middle and applied in a zigzag pattern. Make sure the walls are always grouted and free of rising damp or frost damage.
  5. INSUFFICIENTLY STRAIGHT WALL OR SPACE REQUIRED FOR CABLING: you must install a wooden slatted structure first (timber section min. 30 x 45 mm and centre-to-centre distance of 40 cm). Secure the IKO enertherm boards to the structure mechanically with distribution discs and screws.
  6. CAVITY WALL INSULATION: you can use IKO enertherm boards for cavity wall insulation. The boards are secured mechanically. Build the inner brick wall first and remove all mortar remnants. Install the boards with the tongue facing upwards. Use at least 4 cavity anchors per board and fasten them 15 cm from the corners of the boards. Make sure the cavity anchor slopes slightly towards the direction of the outer wall. This prevents any moisture from running back into the inner wall. The IKO enertherm boards should be staggered to the maximum extent. They are anchored through the entire thickness of the insulation and into the inner wall. Leave an optimal air cavity of 2 to 3 cm between the insulation and the exterior wall. Tape the seams with ISO TAPE. This ensures even better windproofing.
  7. IKO enertherm MULTI-FIT boards can be mechanically secured to the wooden roof structure with fastening sets (chosen based on insulation board thickness), which consist of distribution discs and screws. Screw the IKO enertherm boards to the purlins using at least 2 screws with distribution discs. Use at least 2 screws per board. Distribute the screws uniformly across the surface of the board. Make sure the insulation boards are staggered and the seams do not extend across several boards.
